On May 29, 2025, a tragic single-vehicle crash on I-64 East in Shelby County claimed the life of one driver after their SUV veered into the emergency lane, struck a concrete barrier, and burst into flames. According to WLKY, the incident occurred just before 2 p.m. and caused major traffic disruptions as first responders closed all eastbound lanes to investigate and secure the area.
Additional coverage from WAVE3 News noted that westbound traffic was reduced to one lane during the response, causing backups and delays through the evening.
While single-vehicle crashes may appear to be the driver’s fault, that’s not always the case. Roadway hazards, defective vehicle parts, or the actions of another driver can all contribute.
For example:
A tire blowout caused by a manufacturer defect
Sudden swerving to avoid a reckless driver
Poorly maintained roads or inadequate signage
In these cases, there may be grounds to file a claim against a third party. Learn more in our article:
