Living in Kentucky, you know that one of the most dangerous roadways is the Dixie Highway. The Dixie Highway is dangerous for multiple reasons, some of which are because the highway itself dates back to the 1830s in some locations. Being so old, the arrangement of the road is not always compatible with the current state of motor vehicles.
The Dixie Highway is a multilane highway. The confusing part about it is that it also has a left-turn lane. This lane allows drivers on the highway to turn into local businesses, which are lined up along the highway on either side. With high speeds and turning vehicles combined, there is no question why this is a dangerous roadway.
The good news is that the New Dixie Highway is underway. This project aims to make the Dixie Highway safer, improving mobility and economic development at the same time. The corridor already sees upwards of 60,000 drivers each day along with close to 5,000 riders on public transit. Safety is of the utmost importance as the population and popularity of the area continues to grow.
Making the highway safer for pedestrians and drivers is the goal of the New Dixie Highway project, which has received a $50 million overall investment to replace approximately $14.5 million in pavement and to resurface ragged areas of the roadway between Greenwood Road and Stonegate manor Drive, near Louisville.
You Have Legal Options
No matter where you are along this highway, staying safe is not always easy. If you're in a crash, remember that you have legal options open to you. Repairs and changes are coming, but in the meantime, you need to exercise your rights.
